On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage UNESCO organizes in cooperation with the Catholic University of Leuven and the Flanders Heritage Agency a:  
Scientific Colloquium on the Factors impacting Underwater Cultural Heritage (13 to 14 December 2011)
and a
Regional Meeting on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage (15 December 2011)
Place: Royal Library of Belgium (4 Boulevard de l'Empereur, B-1000 Brussels, Belgium). 
The scientific colloquium will bring together reputed international scholars, representatives from archaeological services and concerned enterprises for a scientific exchange on the imminent factors impacting underwater cultural heritage. They will explore ways of developing positive collaboration in the mitigation of activities adversely affecting this heritage. The colloquium is open to all professionals.  The colloquium will be immediately followed by a regional meeting for Europe in the same venue on 15 December 2011. This regional meeting is open to  State representatives and invited expert speakers only.  UNESCO collaborates in the organization of these events with the Catholic University of Leuven, the Flanders Heritage Agency, the University of Gent and the Flemish Commission for UNESCO. The working languages will be English and French, with simultaneous interpretation in both languages.
Side events: An evening talk is organized for the public at large on 12 December 2011 in the Free University Brussels. An excursion to the medieval Cog workshop in Antwerpen is offered on 16 December 2011.
